Something was wrong, but Padma couldn’t figure out where the tears were coming from. She’d been asleep – and then she was cruelly awake. Her homework was done and in her bag. What else could this sick feeling be?

Grabbing for her wand, she jumped out of bed. If it wasn’t anything to do with her, there was only one thing that could be wrong. Parvati was in trouble.

There was no one in her twins’ bed when she got there. After looking around the Gryffindor girls’ dorm, she struggled to get her sluggish brain working. Where could her sister be?

Parvati hadn’t meant to be out all night but she couldn’t find the energy to get up. The glass of the window was still chilly against her cheek, but she couldn’t feel it against her icy cheek. Hours ago she’d been crying and hadn’t cared about the cold. Tears were still good for something.

“What are you doing down here? I’ve been looking all over for you.”

“Go away, Padma. I don’t have the energy to deal with you right now.” There was no way she was going to tell her sister about what that boy had said to her.
